Sony Tablet S Launch
Sony launched their newest product today the Sony Tablet S. Sony is jumping on the Tablet bandwagon a little late. What were they thinking? Are they crazy?
Maybe. Crazy like a fox.
I’ve got to hand it to the powers that be at Sony for showing some restraint and waiting for the dust to settle a bit before throwing their hat into the ring that is the Tablet market. Perhaps HP could learn a thing or two from this.
With the new Tablet Sony attempts to integrate all of their properties like gaming, video, music and movies into an easy to use device.
Sony’s design for the new Tablet S is unique. It’s a wedged shape resembling a folded magazine.
The center of balance is off center toward the thicker side making it easy to hold in one hand in portrait or landscape positions. When viewing the screen when the Tablet is sitting on a table, glare is minimized due to the slightly tilted viewing angle.
The inevitable comparison of the Sony Tablet S to the ipad 2 comes out quite favorably with almost identical weights but not quite the same finish and material quality.
That said, it does stand out in finish from the new “Android king of the hill” the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Some of the other unique points of the Sony Tablet S are it’s connectivity features. Full size SD card slot and micro USB port allow for storage expansion, peripheral device hook up. Content sharing between devices is handled easily with a built in file manager app.
There are five fully customizable home screens that you can personalize with your choice of apps and widgets.
The Sony Tablet S is a PSP certified device. Gamers will love the ability to play all PS1 and PSP games. Included are Crash Bandicoot and Pinball Hero.
Integrated photo gallery and music player as well as the Sony Curiosity video service and video on demand is available.
Perhaps the coolest feature is that the Sony Tablet S can act as a fully integrated universal remote control. Easily setup and control your Television, cable box, Blu ray player or just about any device whether it’s a Sony or not with it’s full learning capability.
The Sony Tablet S comes with a 9.4 inch screen. A bit of a departure from the current 10 inch trend. Sony’s true black technology is employed to make images really pop.
The latest Android Honeycomb 3.1 operating system installed.
A front mounted 1.3 mega pixel video chat camera and a 5 mega pixel back mounted combination still and video camera.
You can pick up a couple of optional accessories. The docking cradle for around $40. The cradle acts as a vertical holder so that you can use the Tablet S as a photo frame or clock as well as a charging station.
For around $70 is a wireless keyboard.
Two version are coming out. A 16 gig for $499 and a 32 gig for $599.
The Sony Tablet S is a high end Tablet and is everything a high end Tablet should be.
